1 - Samuel - Day 8 - Trust Reframed โ Where Our Confidence Truly Belongs (April 20)
Day 8 Reflection & Rest / ๐ Psalm 20:7 (NKJV), ๐ 1 Samuel 17:45โ47 (NKJV)
Reflection & Rest
This week has brought us face to face with one of the most defining questions in Scripture: Who will we trust as our king? Israel looked for security in what they could see, structure, strength, and leadership like the nations around them. Saul stood as the visible answer to that desire. Yet beneath it all, God revealed something deeper: the real issue was not leadership; it was trust.
Psalm 20:7 gives language to that reality. Chariots and horses represent power, control, and human solutions. They are what people naturally rely on when facing uncertainty. But the psalm draws a clear line: true security is not found in what we build or chooseโit is found in remembering the name of the Lord.
This is where rest begins. Not in having everything resolved, but in knowing where our confidence belongs. The story of 1 Samuel has shown us that when trust shifts away from God, even the best human systems cannot sustain what only God can provide. But when trust is rightly placed, even in weakness, even in uncertainty, God remains faithful to lead, provide, and accomplish His purposes.
Simple Summary
When we trust what we can see, we carry the weight. When we trust the Lord, He carries it for us.
A Prayer
Lord, You see how easily my heart looks for security in what is visible, controllable, and familiar. Teach me to trust You more deeply. Help me to remember who You are, not just in words, but in where I place my confidence. Reorient my heart away from what cannot sustain me, and anchor it fully in You. In Your faithfulness, I find rest. In Your name, I place my trust. Amen.
