Exodus - Day 15 - Covenant: The Lord Forms a Holy People (Feb-15)

Reflection
This week has shown us that covenant is not merely something God establishes for His people, but something He forms within His people. Holiness is not sustained by rules alone, but by hearts that are taught, inclined, and kept by God Himself.
(Psalm 119:33–40) captures this beautifully. The psalmist does not claim strength in himself. Instead, he prays:
“Teach me…”
“Give me understanding…”
“Make me walk…”
“Incline my heart…”
“Turn away my eyes…”
“Revive me…”
These are covenant prayers. They acknowledge that obedience is not self-produced; it is God-shaped. The holy life flows from divine instruction, divine direction, and divine renewal.
Israel learned at Sinai that God’s covenant was not about performance but about transformation. This psalm echoes the same truth: holiness begins when God forms desire, not just behavior.
Quiet Consideration
Take a moment and ask:
Where have I been trying to obey without first asking God to shape my heart?
Do I seek God’s commandments as duty, or as life-giving direction?
Have I asked Him recently to incline my heart rather than simply correct my actions?
Let this be a moment not of striving, but of surrender.
Resting Truth
God does not merely give His people commands. He gives Himself to shape the people who obey them.
A Prayer
Lord, teach me Your way. Give me understanding that I may walk in Your truth. Incline my heart toward what pleases You, and turn my eyes from what draws me away. Revive me according to Your word, that my life may reflect Your covenant faithfulness.
Amen.

I love the way the Psalm excerpts so beautifully make the connection, focuses the takeaways, and brings it home on a personal application level. God is good, all the time!
