Apostolic Witness — How the Apostles Interpret This
In 🙏 1 Corinthians 5:7–8 (NKJV), Paul directly connects the Passover lamb of Exodus to Jesus Christ: “For indeed Christ, our Passover, was sacrificed for us.”
The Apostle does not treat the Passover as a distant symbol or a mere historical memory. He declares that its meaning finds fulfillment in the death of Christ. The blood placed on Israel’s doorposts in 🙏 Exodus 12 (NKJV) pointed forward to the Lamb whose sacrifice brings true and final deliverance.
Paul also applies the Passover to the life of the church. Just as Israel removed leaven from their homes, believers are called to remove the “old leaven” of sin, hypocrisy, corruption, and the old way of life, so that they may walk in sincerity and truth (see also 🙏 Galatians 2:20 (NKJV); 🙏 Romans 6:6–11 (NKJV)).
The apostles, therefore, teach that:
Passover was always redemptive
Christ is the true Passover Lamb
Deliverance leads to transformed living
Salvation forms a redeemed people
What God began in Egypt finds its fullness in Christ, not by allegory, but through God’s unfolding redemptive story.
FaithBindsUs Insight
The Apostolic Witness shows us that redemption is never abstract. In Exodus, God redeems a people out of bondage and into covenant life. In Christ, God does the same. He rescues us from sin and calls us to live as a renewed people shaped by grace.
New life in Christ is not simply the forgiveness we receive. It is a new identity we walk in. The church does not merely remember Passover as history; we live as those marked by the Lamb, called to sincerity, holiness, gratitude, and worship.
Passover was not only about escaping judgment, it was also about belonging to God. The same is true of the gospel.
