Anchor Orientation
The Bible opens not with argument or explanation, but with declaration: “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” Scripture assumes God’s existence and authority from the first line. Before time, matter, or motion, God is. Creation begins with Him, not with humanity, chaos, or chance.
(Genesis 1:2) describes the earth as formless and void, covered in darkness, with the Spirit of God hovering over the waters. This is not disorder beyond God’s control, but unformed creation awaiting His command. The presence of God’s Spirit signals intentionality, care, and readiness. Nothing is abandoned. Nothing is accidental.
These opening verses establish the foundation for everything that follows. God is the Creator. He precedes all things. He brings order from formlessness and purpose from emptiness. Creation is not random; it is shaped by God’s will and sustained by His presence.
What This Anchor Establishes
God exists before all things.
Creation begins with purpose, not chaos.
God’s Spirit is actively present from the start.
All authority in Scripture flows from God as Creator.
Everything that follows must be read through this foundation.
Why This Matters
If God is Creator, then life has meaning, order, and accountability. Genesis does not begin with us—it starts with God. Understanding this anchor shapes how we read the rest of Scripture and how we know our place in God’s world.
How to Use This Week
This week, we will walk through the creation narrative slowly and carefully. Today anchors us in who God is before we explore what God does. Return to this foundation whenever later passages raise questions.
Looking Ahead
Tomorrow we will begin the narrative walkthrough, following how God brings light, order, and life into the world through His spoken word.
A Prayer
Lord God, You are before all things and over all things. Help me to begin this journey rooted in Your truth and authority. Teach me to trust Your purpose and rest in Your presence as You bring order and meaning to my life.
Amen.
