Song of Solomon - Day 6 - Walking in Covenant Love (July 31)
Day 6 Apostolic Witness / Colossians 3:12–19 (NKJV)
Scripture: 🙏 Colossians 3:12–19 (NKJV)
Apostolic Witness
The apostles consistently affirm God’s original design for marriage as a lifelong covenant marked by love, faithfulness, purity, humility, and mutual service. In 🙏 Colossians 3:12–19 (NKJV), Paul instructs believers to put on the character of Christ by living with compassion, kindness, humility, meekness, patience, forgiveness, and, above all, love. These virtues are not merely ideals but the practical outworking of the gospel in everyday life.
Within marriage, Paul calls wives to honor God’s created order while husbands are commanded to love their wives sacrificially and never treat them harshly. Marriage is therefore not sustained merely by human affection but by lives transformed through Christ and empowered by the Holy Spirit. The apostles consistently teach that the health of Christian marriages depends upon growing Christlike character rather than personal fulfillment alone.
This apostolic instruction extends beyond the home into the entire body of Christ. The same humility, forgiveness, peace, and love that strengthen marriages are also to characterize the relationships of the church, demonstrating the unity that Christ has established among His people.
Additional Apostolic Witness:
🙏 Ephesians 5:22–33 (NKJV) - Marriage reflects Christ’s sacrificial love for His Church.
🙏 1 Peter 3:1–7 (NKJV) - Husbands and wives are called to live with honor, understanding, and godliness.
🙏 Hebrews 13:4 (NKJV) - Marriage is honorable before God and must remain pure.
🙏 1 Thessalonians 4:3–8 (NKJV) - Believers are called to sexual purity and holiness.
🙏 Romans 12:9–18 (NKJV) - Genuine love, humility, patience, and peace should characterize Christian relationships.
🙏 Galatians 5:22–23 (NKJV) - The fruit of the Spirit provides the character necessary for healthy marriages and Christian fellowship.
What This Confirms About Song of Solomon
The apostles never reinterpret or replace the original meaning of Song of Solomon. Instead, they confirm and reinforce the principles it celebrates. Song of Solomon presents the beauty, exclusivity, joy, and faithfulness of covenant marriage. The apostolic writings explain how believers are to preserve and strengthen that covenant by living according to Christ’s character.
Rather than treating marriage as merely emotional or contractual, the apostles consistently uphold it as a sacred relationship established by God, deserving lifelong faithfulness, purity, sacrificial love, forgiveness, and mutual honor. Their teaching demonstrates that the love celebrated poetically in Song of Solomon is lived out in practice through obedience to Christ.
FaithBindsUs Insight
The FaithBindsUs method recognizes the beautiful harmony of progressive revelation. Song of Solomon establishes God’s design for covenant love. Christ reveals the ultimate fulfillment of covenant love through His sacrifice for the Church. The apostles then teach believers how to faithfully live within that covenant through the transforming work of the Holy Spirit.
Each stage of Scripture builds upon the previous one without altering its original meaning:
Creation establishes marriage as God’s covenant 🙏 Genesis 2:18–25 (NKJV).
Song of Solomon celebrates the beauty and joy of faithful covenant love.
Christ perfectly demonstrates covenant love through His sacrificial redemption 🙏 Ephesians 5:25–32 (NKJV).
The Apostles instruct believers how to reflect Christ’s love in marriage and throughout the church 🙏 Colossians 3:12–19 (NKJV).
This preserves both the historical meaning of Song of Solomon and its rightful place within God’s unfolding plan of redemption.
