The Moment Grace Broke Through
When the veil was torn, heaven opened, and the law gave way to love, and the promise became our reality.
It was prophesied: (Jeremiah 31:31–34)
It was declared: (Luke 22:20) (Last Supper)
It was fulfilled: (Matthew 27:50–51) (Christ’s death)
It was confirmed: (Luke 24:6) and (Romans 6:4) (Resurrection)
It is explained: (Hebrews 9:15) and (Hebrews 10:10–14)
The End of the Old Covenant
The Old Covenant ended at the cross, and the New Covenant began with the blood of Christ, validated by His resurrection. That’s the precise turning point of redemptive history when the law gave way to grace, and access to God became personal through Jesus.
When Promise Became Reality: The Birth of the New Covenant
The event stands as the defining moment in all of redemptive history. It is the point where divine promise became fulfilled reality. It was not the product of human effort or a gradual rewriting of Scripture, but the result of one climactic event: the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. The prophets had long foretold a day when God would write His law on human hearts rather than tablets of stone (Jeremiah 31:31–34), pointing to a relationship built on grace rather than ritual. At the Last Supper, Jesus declared that His blood would be the seal of this New Covenant (Luke 22:20), foreshadowing the cross where that covenant would be enacted. When Jesus yielded His spirit and the temple veil was torn in two (Matthew 27:50-51), the separation between God and humanity was forever removed. The resurrection then confirmed the covenant’s power, proving that death had been defeated and new life made possible (Romans 6:4). As Hebrews 9:15 explains, Christ became the Mediator of this New Covenant through his own blood, bringing forgiveness, eternal inheritance, and direct access to God. The law was fulfilled, grace was unleashed, and humanity was invited into an unbreakable relationship with the Living God.
A Prayer
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for the gift of the New Covenant, sealed not with ink or stone, but with the precious blood of Your Son. What was once distant, You have made near; what was once impossible, You have made complete through grace. Help me to live each day as one who walks in that freedom, no longer striving under law but resting in the love that tore the veil. May Your Word be written on my heart, and may my life reflect the power of Christ’s resurrection that made all things new.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
